There will be a repeat of last season’s Champions League final in this term’s round of 16 after Liverpool were drawn against Real Madrid.

Liverpool came second in their group behind Napoli and so were unseeded in the draw, which took place on Monday. Their next task will be to take on Real Madrid in the round of 16, after the Spaniards won their group above RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk and Celtic.

The game will be a repeat of last season’s final, which Real Madrid won 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Vinicius Junior. Los Blancos also beat the Reds in the 2018 final.

Hence, it will be an opportunity for revenge for Jurgen Klopp’s side, although the task will be a daunting one.

Meanwhile, Tottenham, who dramatically finished top of their group after a late winner over Marseille, have been rewarded with a tie against Italian champions AC Milan.

As a result, former Inter boss Antonio Conte will be back at San Siro, up against his old rivals.

Manchester City will be up against RB Leipzig after winning their group. Still searching for a first Champions League trophy, they will hope this can be the next step towards their long-term target.

They faced the same opponents in last season’s group stage, winning 6-3 at home and losing 2-1 away.

And Chelsea, the most recent English side to win this competition, have been paired with Borussia Dortmund. It will give Jude Bellingham the chance to showcase his skills back in England, for example.

What’s more, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Christian Pulisic could end up facing their former side.

Elsewhere, another standout tie will be between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, the French and German champions respectively and both finalists from 2020.
