Real Madrid have won the European Cup a record 13 times, but Los Blancos will be up against it to extend that advantage this season as they prepare to learn their group stage opponents.

Los Blancos reached the Champions League semi-finals last term, but were well beaten by eventual winners Chelsea and are lacking the transfer funds to seriously strengthen an ageing squad.

Having won this competition three years in a row during his first spell as Real coach, it is never wise to bet against Zinedine Zidane lifting this famous trophy - but it will take some doing this time around.

With the Champions League group-stage draw set to be held this week, here are the potential opponents for Real fans to watch out for in Pots 1-4...

Who can Real Madrid face in the Champions League draw?

Pot 1: Chelsea, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Lille, Sporting Libson, Manchester City

Real cannot be drawn against Villarreal or Atletico given Uefa rules state two teams from the same association cannot face each other at this stage.

That means Real will face one of Chelsea, Man City, Bayern, Inter, Lille or Sporting.

Pot 2:Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United, PSG, Liverpool, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund

Real are seeded in Pot 2, so will not face any of the seven other teams.
