Atletico Madrid became the first team to book their place in the last four of the Champions League after they ended Leicester City's Champions League fairytale on Tuesday night.

Saul Niguez's first half header effectively put last year's runners-up out of sight before Diego Simeone's men were forced to resist a valiant second half comeback inspired by Jamie Vardy's second half goal.

Atletico Madrid are looking to reach the Champions League final for the third time in four years where they will want to avenge last year's defeat to eventual winners, Real Madrid.

Atletico's city rivals Real reached their seventh straight Champions League semi-final in controversial circumstances on Tuesday evening.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a sixth Champions League hat-trick to help overcome Bayern Munich in extra time.

After the match Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti called for the immediate introduction of video technology after the match officials failed to spot Ronaldo's offside position in two of his three goals.

"We had thought of everything going into this game - except the referee," Ancelotti said.

"You can't decide a semi-final spot like this. It shouldn't happen at this level."

"The referee probably wasn't up to the task," said the Italian, a former Real boss.

"I don't think Real Madrid have any influence on referees. The officials simply got it wrong. I had never been in favour of video technology, but I must admit it's necessary now."

Ronaldo's hat-trick brought up his 100th goal in Champions League football and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes the Portuguese could play on into his fourties and emulate Pele's incredible statistics.

"I was thinking the other day, what's the long game for him? And I wonder if he's going to go on and play into his 40s," Neville told Sky Sports.

"He'll be thinking Pele. Those numbers. Those scandalous numbers you think you can never achieve, the appearances, the goals, and that to me is where it's going.

"I think he'll play for longer than Lionel Messi, I think he'll score more goals in the end and will go on to do incredible things.
