The scenes are still fresh three days later. Everton’s André Gomes writhing after his horrific ankle injury. Tottenham’s Son Heung-min barely consolable after witnessing what his challenge had wrought.

But Son has been as contrite as one could hope in the aftermath, and that continued Wednesday.

After scoring the first of his two goals in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade, Son muted his celebration and instead appeared to send a prayer to Gomes (via Bleacher Report):

A classy gesture from a player renowned for such demeanor.

On Tuesday, Son won his appeal of the red card from the Gomes incident. And as ugly as that was, it was probably more careless than dangerous, so the rescinding was appropriate.

Gomes had surgery on Monday and broke his silence Wednesday, thanking everyone for their support. Count Son among the people supporting him.
