Mundo Deportivo reports that the 33-year-old was suffering badly with a long-standing thigh problem upon his return to Barcelona following international duty.
The midfielder first strained the muscle in February and exacerbated the problem in the Champions League match against AC Milan earlier this month.
Xavi missed Spain's match against Finland but played all 90 minutes of the World Cup qualifier win over France.
But he is now apparently ruled out of the weekend clash with Celta Vigo and may also have to miss the trip to face PSG.
Jordi Alba is also a doubt with a hamstring problem while Barca will be without Pedro due to suspension.
