Channel 4 axe The Jump after a string of celeb injuries

Channel 4’s The Jump has been axed after 34 contestants suffered injuries over four series.

The sports show sees celebrities go head to head competing in a variety of winter events and has been shelved by the channel for 2018.

‘It’s felt like The Jump has been on borrowed time for a while now as the injuries mount up.

‘The fact Channel 4 have decided against bringing it back next year suggests it’s not a loved property.

‘If it was getting big enough numbers, it would be locked into the schedule,’ a source told The Sun.

It’s also thought medical costs over the four series has put Channel 4 off airing the show and insiders believes if the show is shelved for one year, it will mean ‘The Jump’ will be cancelled altogether.

‘The Jump’ was presented by Davina McCall, 49, and the show received a number of complaints to axe it due to the injuries suffered by the celebrities.

Former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ dancer Ola Jordan damaged her leg in a fall and has said it will never be the same again.

There have also been injuries to:

  • Former gymnast Beth Tweddle – broke two vertebrae in neck and had to have part of her hip removed

  • Former swimmer Rebecca Adlington – dislocated shoulder

  • Made in Chelsea star Mark-Francis Vandell – fractured ankle

  • Former athlete Linford Christie – pulled hamstring

  • Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding – injured ligament

  • Model Heather Mills – knee and thumb injury

Other celebrities injured include Anthea Turner, Melinda Messenger and Stacey Solomon.

Next year, marks the 2018 Winter Olympics and a spokesperson for Channel 4 said it was a reason for “resting” the show for a year.

‘The Jump has been a hugely successful brand.

‘However, with such a huge amount of winter sport on screen at the start of 2018, we have decided to rest the show for the year.’
