League One Play-Off Final 2018-19
Venue: Wembley Stadium, London
Date: Sunday, 26 May, 2019

Kick-off time: 3pm BST

Charlton will look to secure promotion back to the Championship after three seasons in the third tier of English football in the League One Play-Off Final against Sunderland on Saturday.

Addicks fans haven’t had much to celebrate in recent years but they poured onto the pitch to do just that after their penalty shoot-out victory over Doncaster a week ago as Lee Bowyer led his side to Wembley in his first full season in charge at the Valley.

Behind the scenes, a group of potential buyers are thought to be interested in ending owner Roland Duchatelet's disastrous tenure in south London.

And the situation could accelerate after Charlton play Sunderland at Wembley this weekend.

Sunderland meanwhile are looking to secure promotion straight back to the Championship.

Sunsday’s final is a repeat of 1998 First Division Play-Off Final classic, that Alan Curbishley’s Charlton won 7-6 on penalties after a 4-4 draw.

Charlton vs Sunderland team news and predicted line-ups

Charlton striker Igor Vetokele faces a fitness race ahead of Sunday.

Vetokele has been out for a month with a thigh injury and he is losing his battle to return in time to face Sunderland at Wembley.

The Angolan had struck up a good partnership with Lyle Taylor, scoring twice in three games before his injury, but he missed both legs of the play-off semi-finals against Doncaster.

Aiden McGeady is in contention to return for the Black Cats meanwhile after missing the last four games with a foot injury.

“He has a chance,” Sunderland boss Jack Ross said.

“The two weeks, break he had since being unavailable for the first leg against Portsmouth has helped him."

Score prediction: Charlton 1-2 Sunderland

The Black Cats to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
