Charlton youth academy: Inside the Football League's top talent factory

Charlton 'not for sale at present time' amid Roland Duchatelet exit rumours

It is no particular surprise to those at his former club that Ademola Lookman has adapted to the Premier League so swiftly. After all – Charlton have been producing elite young talent for over two decades.

Lookman’s £10million-plus switch to Everton has been an immediate success, with the youngster netting on his debut in a 4-0 win over Manchester City.

In moving up to the top tier he joined the likes of Joe Gomez, Harry Arter, Darren Randolph and Carl Jenkinson as former Charlton youngster plying their trade at the highest level.

He likely won’t be the last, with defender Ezri Konsa drawing covetous glances from several of the Premier League’s top six.

Joe Aribo, who his manager Karl Robinson compares to a young Patrick Vieira, is another who has established himself as a regular in the Charlton side this season.

Indeed it is a mark of the quality of youngster produced at Sparrows Lane that Premier League figures rank their academy the best outside the top tier and the sixth best in the country.

For a club that has battled through on-field turmoil in recent years it is quite an achievement to continue to produce such high-quality young talent.

Standard Sport travelled to the club’s training ground to find out what Charlton have got right in their youth setup. Watch the video above to find out more…
