TikTok star Charly Jordan apologises for travelling to Rwanda during COVID-19 pandemic

TikTok star Charly Jordan has apologised for travelling to Rwanda in the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic.

The model – who has over three million Instagram followers – travelled from her home in the US to the East African country on 2 September in order to take part in a nature trek to see endangered silverback gorillas in their natural habitat.

Jordan then posted an emotional video on social media platform TikTok complaining of the treatment she had received after testing positive for COVID-19 during her stay.

The social media influencer told her 1.8m TikTok followers that she “tested positive and literally the f***ing government showed up at my place, and came and dragged me away from everybody I was with, and I don’t speak the language, and they locked me in this fucking room. And I can’t leave.”

She added: “I don’t know how long I’m going to be here, and they won’t tell me anything.”

Jordan has since removed the video and apologised for reaction, revealing that she was quarantined for two days before her result were confirmed to be a false positive and she was allowed to return home.

Writing on her Instagram stories she said: “The video I uploaded to TikTok was very emotional. I never meant to offend anyone and I take full responsibility for my actions.

“I got separated from my group and was very confused because of the language barrier and should’ve educated myself before travelling. I should’ve thought about what I was doing before reacting.

“I have learned my lesson and I know I shouldn’t have travelled during this time. I will do better in future.

“I was alone and scared, watching it back I realise how inappropriate and reactive the video was. I never meant to offend anyone, I was just trying to figure out what was going on for a few days while I was alone and getting no answers.”

Rwanda is one of only 30 countries currently “open with restrictions” to US citizens, due to high rates of COVID-19 in the US.

Jordan said she had already had coronavirus three months earlier, and had tested negative before travelling.

She said she did, “everything by the books and in accordance to the Rwandan and US government” to make her trip safe.

The TikToker said all members of her party were tested two days before leaving and confirmed negative, and were again tested on arrival in Rwanda, while in quarantine until their results were again confirmed negative.

Three days later Jordan was tested before leaving the country and when the result came back positive she was held in quarantine for two days until she had received two negative test results, when she then allowed to return to the US.

While replying to comments on her TikTok video during her time in quarantine she had complained: “The US shouldn’t be letting anyone be travelling out of the country.”
