Checa tops Moscow test

Carlos Checa held off Leon Haslam to top the timesheets after the first day of official World Superbike testing at the Moscow Raceway.

The Althea Ducati rider paced both sessions at the Russian circuit ahead of the weekend's inaugural race.

The Catalan ace set a best of 1min 37.189secs in the morning before setting a 1min 35.891secs in the afternoon to better his nearest rival Haslam by almost two tenths of a second.

Tom Sykes and Marco Melandri sat in third and fourth respectively while Aprilia riders Max Biaggi, Chaz Davies and Eugene Laverty came in fifth, sixth and eighth.

Honda riders Jonathan Rea and Hiroshi Aoyama were quick in the morning but dropped off the pace after the break, slipping to 12th and 18th respectively.

Haslam's fellow Brit Leon Camier ended the day in 13th place.
