Chelsea have made an offer to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan as they look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, according to reports.

Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy have both struggled to convince any of Chelsea’s three managers this season that they should be their long-term number one.

And the Blues are in the transfer market this summer for a new goalkeeper with Mauricio Pochettino making it one of his top priorities.

Italian website Inter Live claims that Chelsea have ‘made an offer of 60 million euros (£52m)’ for AC Milan goalkeeper Maignan as they look for some security between the sticks.

Chelsea conceded 14 more goals this season than last term after a disastrous campaign saw them finish 12th in the Premier League in 2022/23.

And now the Blues see Maignan as the perfect replacement with the France international helping Milan reach the Champions League semi-finals and finish inside Serie A’s top four.

But if Maignan decides he doesn’t want to move to Chelsea then the west London club are ‘ready to fall back’ on a goalkeeper from the other side of Milan with Inter’s Andre Onana still on their radar.

If that happens then Inter Milan will ‘get money and the loan of Kalidou Koulibaly’ with the centre-back not making the best impression at Stamford Bridge.

There has been a lot of excitement around the appointment of Pochettino following Chelsea’s announcement last week that he will be their new manager from the beginning of next season.

The former Tottenham boss failed to win a trophy at Spurs, obviously, and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan doubts his credentials for success at Chelsea.

Ahead of Pochettino’s appointment, Jordan said on talkSPORT: “Mauricio Pochettino’s imminent arrival at Chelsea is an interesting one. Yes, he built a great side at Tottenham but he didn’t win anything and although I’m sure he’ll make Chelsea contenders again, I don’t think he’ll land any silverware for them because I don’t think he’s a winner, he just gives you a whiff of winning.

“It’s one thing winning in France with Paris Saint-Germain — if you don’t win something there then for God’s sake what are you doing? — but if you want to go to Chelsea you’d better make damn sure you’re a winner and I’m not sure he is.”
