Chelsea agree deadline day transfer with Premier League rival for Enzo Maresca reject
Chelsea have been given a major boost to their hopes of finally offloading Trevoh Chalobah. The 25-year-old defender has been heavily linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge this summer after falling out of favour under Enzo Maresca.
football.london understands that the Blues have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace for the season-long loan of Chalobah. It's believed that there will be no option or obligation to buy clause included in the deal, which will see Chelsea incur a 'loan fee'.
Earlier this summer, the Cobham graduate was omitted from the first team as Maresca first looked to trim down his squad. Chalobah, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in June 2028, played no role for Chelsea in pre-season preparations, training away from the main group.
Speaking to reporters in July, the Blues boss admitted that the club made a 'sad decision' to axe the centre-half. Maresca said: "First of all, from my point of view, it's always sad to leave players out, that can be out of a pre-season or can be out of the squad or out of the first eleven because, in the end, they all work for the same target, that is to be part of the same team.
"The Trevoh situation for me is quite clear, we have Axel [Disasi] there, we have Tosin [Adarabioyo] there, we have Wes [Fofana] who in these two weeks has worked very good and is finally back, we have some very young profiles like Josh Acheampong who is doing fantastic. It’s a sad decision but we have to take the decision."
Then, ahead of Chelsea's clash against Crystal Palace this weekend, Maresca reiterated that Chalobah, as well as the likes of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, will not be playing for him – even if they fail to find new clubs before the summer transfer window slams shut on Friday night.

"The only thing I can say is the ones who are going to get minutes are the ones who I think can help us," said the Blues boss on Thursday. "It’s not just Raheem. It’s all the players who are training apart. The moment the transfer window closes, they are not going to get minutes."
