Chelsea Champions League draw confirmed: Who will they play in the round of 16?

Chelsea have been drawn against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16.

The Blues, winners of Group E, will travel to Germany for the first leg of a tough knockout tie in February before hosting Edin Terzic's side in the return fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Such a clash will signal a post-World Cup return to England for Dortmund and Three Lions midfielder Jude Bellingham, rumoured to be a long-term transfer target for Chelsea, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will also face off against his former club in the New Year.

There would also have been an emotional reunion with Thomas Tuchel at Signal Iduna Park, had a dismal defeat by Dinamo Zagreb in September not spelled the end of his Chelsea tenure and instead led to the appointment of Graham Potter.

Dortmund, currently sitting fourth in the Bundesliga, finished as runners-up in Group G behind Manchester City after reuniting with former superstar frontman Erling Haaland.

Remarkable considering their status as two modern powerhouses of European football, but Chelsea and Dortmund have never previously met in a competitive Uefa match.
