Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys has joined Burnley on a season-long move. Football.london reported last week that the 21-year-old's move to the Championship club includes an obligation to buy.

Humphreys spent last season on loan at Swansea City, where he made 26 appearances. He returned to west London in the summer but was not part of Enzo Maresca's squad that headed to the United States for a pre-season tour.

On Wednesday morning, the club confirmed the defender's exit. A statement read: "Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys has today completed a season-long loan move to Burnley.

"Bashir, a graduate from our Academy having joined from Reading in 2017, has played twice for our senior team, making his Blues debut in an FA Cup third round tie away to Manchester City in January 2023.

"He has also represented England up to the Under-21 age group and was part of the squad that won the Under-19 Euros title in 2022.

"Bashir spent most of last season on loan at Swansea City and now returns to the Championship to join Scott Parker’s Clarets, who sit top of the table having won their first two league fixtures.

"Good luck, Bashir!"

Chelsea haven't confirmed whether the deal includes the option to buy but Burnley included the detail in their announcement. Humphreys has made two appearances for the Blues, with his last coming in the EFL Cup against AFC Wimbledon last season.
