Thomas Tuchel has confirmed he would be interested in signing Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski should he want to move to Chelsea.

The 34-year-old has made it clear he wants to leave Bayern this summer, with Barcelona understood to be the frontrunners to sign him.

Chelsea have also been linked with a sensational deal to bring Lewandowski to the Premier League.

Tuchel says is happy with his attacking options following the £47.5million signing of Raheem Sterling. The Chelsea manager has not ruled out a move for Lewandowski - but admits the striker is unlikely to end up at Stamford Bridge.

“I don’t think we have a chance for Lewandowski but if there is a chance… he is one of the best No9s,” said Tuchel.

“It does not make sense that I comment about players from other teams and I will not start doing it. Of course, there are top No9s out there. But we are happy with what we have at the moment. The priority is not on the No9 position right now.

“We have our top priority [Sterling], we have got our top priority signed. It makes me very, very happy and from there we are very flexible. Our goal threat should be enough right now. If we think something crazy comes up that we don’t see, maybe we will get involved, maybe not. But the priority is not there now.”

The priority for Chelsea is new defenders. Kalidou Koulibaly is closing in on a £33m move from Napoli and Chelsea are will revive their interest in Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde after being frustrated in their attempts to sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City.

They are also interested in Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe.

Even though Sterling is not a like-for-like replacement for Romelu Lukaku, Tuchel does not believe he needs a big target man and has also ruled out a move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I think, at the moment, we have Timo [Werner] as a nine, we have Kai [Havertz] as a nine, we have Michy [Batshuayi] as a nine, we have [Armando] Broja as a nine, Raheem Sterling as a nine, maybe, and let’s see how things work out,” said Tuchel,

“I think, right now, it is not the first priority to get another big striker in. I think we have enough intensity, goalscoring ability, and mobility to compensate. We go from there. We need to focus on different areas first and maybe see later.”
