Chelsea are looking to offload Ross Barkley before the transfer window closes on September 1 and are reportedly considering handing him a huge pay-off to end his Stamford Bridge contract.

The 28-year-old’s fate in west London already looks sealed but the proposed arrival of Anthony Gordon from Premier League rivals Everton over the next few days will be the final nail in Barkley’s coffin.

Winger Gordon looks set to arrive in a £60million deal, as Thomas Tuchel strengthens his attacking options.

But the signing is further bad news for former England man Barkley. The attacking midfielder is already down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and Gordon’s arrival will not help.

Barkley currently has a year remaining on his £200,000-a-week contract but The Sun claims that Blues are willing to pay the former Everton man off to get him off the books.

Barkley was actually given the chance to show his qualities on the club’s pre-season US tour.

However, he has not been involved since the Premier League campaign got underway and the end looks nigh.

The midfielder was loaned out to Aston Villa in the 2020-21 campaign. However, he was back in the Chelsea team last season.

He actually played 14 times in all competitions under Tuchel and scored in the season finale against Watford.

However, the German has clearly decided that Barkley is not good enough as he continues to revamp his squad.

New Chelsea arrivals making life tougher for Barkley

New owner Todd Boehly has already splashed out Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella. Talented youngsters Omari Hutchinson, Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei have also arrived.

Gordon is expected to put pen to paper this coming week, while a move for Wesley Fofana remains in the works.

A fee of £70m is said to have been agreed for the Leicester centre-back, with add-ons to follow.

The 21-year-old Frenchman has already agreed a six-year Chelsea contract and has been left out of Leicester’s last two games.

He will challenge with Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly and Trevoh Chalobah for a starting spot.
