Chelsea have cancelled a pre-season friendly following a coronavirus scare.

The Blues were set to face Irish side Drogheda United as part of their pre-season trip to Dublin on Thursday night but cancelled the match just hours before kick-off after a "possible positive" case of Covid-19 within the group.

The individual has been isolated away from the rest of the travelling bubble and Chelsea are now investigating the incident.

"Earlier today, we had a possible positive Covid case which we are investigating," said a Chelsea spokesperson.

"The individual has been isolated from the rest of the group. We also decided, as a precaution, to cancel tonight’s behind closed doors game against Drogheda."

Thomas Tuchel put on an additional training session on Thursday evening with the rest of the group in place of the friendly.

Chelsea are set to return from Ireland later this week before facing Bournemouth on Tuesday next week.

There will also be games against London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal before the season starts.
