Porto laboured for long periods but gave themselves hope with Mehdi Taremi’s sensational bicycle kick in injury time, but Porto could not find the second goal to force extra-time.
Tuchel has been tasked with winning silverware immediately at Chelsea, with Frank Lampard’s brutal sacking a reminder that Roman Abramovich will not settle for anything less.
After finishing as a runner-up with PSG last season, the German coach is now into the last four with Chelsea, where they will face either Real Madrid or Liverpool.
