Chelsea vs Wolves - LIVE!

Conor Coady struck deep into time added on to snatch a 2-2 draw for Wolverhampton Wanderers away at Chelsea in the Premier League, as Todd Boehly watched on in the Stamford Bridge stands.

Coady headed home a cross from substitute Chiquinho in almost the last action of the game.

Wolves had trailed for much of the game after Romelu Lukaku scored twice, his first league goals of 2022, in two second-half minutes.

Lukaku claimed his first from the penalty spot in the 56th minute after a lengthy VAR check concluded he had been fouled by Romain Saiss just inside the area.

He put his second away with a fine first-time strike after being put through by Christian Pulisic.

But Wolves snatched a goal back in the 79th minute through substitute Francisco Trincao and then upped the pressure as Coady struck in the 97th-minute, giving Thomas Tuchel another frustrating afternoon to reflect on.

And that’s the full-time whistle!

Chelsea throw away a two-goal lead... their stumbling run on form continues in dramatic fashion.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-2 Wolves | Conor Coady 90+6

16:56 , Matt Verri

INCREDIBLE!

COADY HAS HEADED HOME AN EQUALISER IN THE DYING SECONDS!

Tough crowd....

16:54 , Matt Verri

16:52 , Matt Verri

90+2 mins: Havertz on to replace Lukaku.

Boehly gives the Belgian a warm ovation as he trudges off - been a good afternoon for Lukaku.

James Robson at Stamford Bridge

16:50 , Matt Verri

Six minutes added on. This could get tense.

16:47 , Matt Verri

86 mins: Jimenez inches away from getting the equaliser! Chelsea hanging on for dear life.

Blues make a change, with Sarr replacing Azpilicueta.

16:46 , Matt Verri

85 mins: SO CLOSE!

Wolves should be level! Trincao has been superb since coming on - so composed in the box, looks set to get his second.... takes a deflection and just wide of the post.

Corner comes to nothing.

16:42 , Matt Verri

83 mins: Wolves piling on the pressure now... Tuchel will be furious that it has come to this.

Werner wins a cheap free-kick for his side, that will help kill things for now.

James Robson at Stamford Bridge

16:40 , Matt Verri

This was looking like being a straight-forward win for Chelsea. Not so anymore.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-1 Wolves | Francisco Trincao 78'

16:39 , Matt Verri

TRINCAO GETS WOLVES BACK IN IT!

Well then. He’s just come off the bench and Trincao is straight in the goals.

Great break from Wolves and a sensational finish.

16:37 , Matt Verri

76 mins: Chelsea should have put this game to bed for good.

Pulisic takes too long to play Lukaku in, and when he eventually does the pass has too much pace on it.

Lukaku looks to dink it to the back post, straight out of play.

16:35 , Matt Verri

74 mins: Great save from Mendy, who then calmly brings the ball forward for the Blues! Hwang with a terrible touch.

Loftus-Cheek then charges up the pitch on the break, plays in Lukaku who wants a free-kick for handball. Not given.

Kovacic drives past the challenges, the game all of a sudden end-to-end.

16:30 , Matt Verri

70 mins: Sa makes a bit of a mess of a ball over the top, Werner can get on the end of it. Poor ball into the box though.

Hwang is still waiting to come on for Wolves, maybe they’re struggling to get signal to speak to Lage.

At last! Hwang is now on, replacing Neto.

16:28 , Matt Verri

67 mins: Play back underway after an absolute age.

Wolves have not got going at all since the break - Chelsea completely dominant.

16:26 , Matt Verri

65 mins: Saiss is down injured for Wolves, getting treatment.

Hwang looks ready to come on - not exactly a straight swap! Don’t think they were planning on Saiss getting a knock.

Took him a matter of seconds to go top!

16:22 , Matt Verri

16:20 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Chelsea are running riot now, Wolves are so rattled.

Pulisic bursts into the box, looks to drill it low across the face of goal. Deflected behind for a corner.

James Robson at Stamford Bridge

16:19 , Matt Verri

Well Lukaku is taking the chance to make an impression on his new boss.

Todd Boehly will be wondering what all the fuss is about - or, more to the point, why on earth Tuchel hasn’t used the club record signing more often.

He’s now Chelsea’s leading scorer this season.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Wolves | Romelu Lukaku 58'

16:18 , Matt Verri

NOTHING STOPPING HIM NOW!

Two in as many minutes from the Belgian, this time set up by Pulisic.

Chelsea in complete control now.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Wolves | Romelu Lukaku 56'

16:15 , Matt Verri

LUKAKU PUTS IT AWAY!

He wins the penalty and scores the penalty! Big goal for Chelsea and a big goal for Lukaku - he really needed that.

PENALTY CHELSEA!

16:13 , Matt Verri

It’s given!

Don’t think Saiss can have any complaints about that. Such a clumsy bit of defending.

16:13 , Matt Verri

Saiss makes a mess of trying to let the ball run out of play, Lukaku is too strong.

The Wolves man on the ground sticks out a leg and Lukaku goes down in the box... nothing given.

VAR check though and the referee is over to look at the monitor.

16:12 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Referee might have to bring out another yellow card soon, it must be filling up.

Moutinho the latest into the book, for a bit of a lunging challenge on Loftus-Cheek. Not the best.

16:10 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Jimenez plays it wide to Neto and the Wolves man has space on the left.

Puts the cross in low and early, Thiago Silva reads the run and clears it at the near post. Comes out to Ait-Nouri who goes for goal from distance... can’t keep it down.

16:07 , Matt Verri

48 mins: This has been a really bright start to the half from Chelsea.

James standing over a free-kick, Sa is expecting him to put it into the box. But James goes for goal instead and almost catches the goalkeeper out... into the side-netting.

Back underway!

16:06 , Matt Verri

Up and running again at Stamford Bridge - Saul is on to replace Alonso for the Blues.

And it’s nearly a perfect start to the half for Chelsea! Werner denied by Sa in the opening minute after the break.

16:01 , Matt Verri

Wolves are not exactly a side that have been full of goals this season, and Chelsea aren’t in great form themselves.

Maybe we should have predicted a tight affair!

Both sides have had chances though - don’t think this will finish goalless.

Boehly in attendance...

15:56 , Matt Verri

Hasn’t been a huge amount for Todd Boehly to get excited about in that first-half... he was briefly up celebrating that Loftus-Cheek goal before looking around confused as it was disallowed.

HT: Chelsea 0-0 Wolves

15:49 , Matt Verri

Goalless at the break at Stamford Bridge.

Both sides with chances to score - Werner and Loftus-Cheek have both had the ball in the net, only to be denied.

Dendoncker really should have put the visitors ahead late in the half.

15:49 , Matt Verri

45+2 mins: Lukaku with a powerful strike, Sa quickly down to deny him. Entertaining end to this half.

Three minutes added on - Neto joins the ever-increasing list on a yellow card.

James Robson at Stamford Bridge

15:47 , Matt Verri

A huge let off for Chelsea at the end of the half. Mendy parried Neto’s shot straight into the patch of Dendoncker, who couldn’t keep his shot down with the whole goal to aim at.

15:47 , Matt Verri

45 mins: HUGE CHANCE!

Neto set away down the left, he cuts inside and goes for goal. Parried out by Mendy, straight to Dendoncker... over the bar.

15:46 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Offside flag up again, as Chelsea play the long ball forward for Lukaku again.

It’s been another frustrating half for Lukaku - he really should have scored from a couple of yards out, when it instead bobbled through to an offside Loftus-Cheek.

15:43 , Matt Verri

41 mins: It was a bit of a mess at the back post, with Rudiger, Lukaku and Loftus-Cheek all involved. Eventually VAR makes the decision.

Todd Boehly was on his feet celebrating - he’ll learn to stay patient next time, with VAR ready to kill the mood.

OFFSIDE!

15:41 , Matt Verri

Chelsea do not have the lead!

VAR check too an absolute age, not sure why because it definitely was offside.

Anyway - it’s still goalless!

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Wolves | Ruben Loftus-Cheek 38'

15:40 , Matt Verri

CHELSEA HAVE THE LEAD!

Corner whipped in, flicked on by Silva at the near post. Bounces off Lukaku, into the path of Loftus-Cheek and he taps home.

We’ll have a VAR check though for offside...

15:38 , Matt Verri

36 mins: Lovely pass from Kovacic for Lukaku to run onto in the box.

Sa hesitates, he doesn’t want to come out. Eventually does just about enough to close down Lukaku.

Saiss then fouls Pulisic and he’s into the referee’s book.

James Robson at Stamford Bridge

15:37 , Matt Verri

This game really does have an end-of-season feel about it. Not much at stake for either team and it has gone into a bit of a lull.

Feels like Chelsea need to inject some pace into their play to drag Wolves out of shape.

GOAL DISALLOWED!

15:36 , Matt Verri

34 mins: Well then - Werner has the ball in the back of the net but the whistle has gone.

Pulisic slides the ball into the box, Saiss goes down in a heap under slight contact from Werner, who then finishes past Sa.

Enough contact for Saiss to go down? Wolves very fortunate.

15:35 , Matt Verri

33 mins: Corner Chelsea, who have struggled to create anything in the last ten minutes or so.

Flicked away, Rudiger keeps it in play and looks to send it back into the box. Saiss there to clear the danger.

15:32 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Wolves starting to get more and more joy going forward - Neto is causing the Chelsea defence problems.

Hasn’t been a huge amount of action at either end of the pitch, but there’s still quite an open feel to the game.

15:29 , Matt Verri

28 mins: Great pass wide from Jimenez and Neto has Azpilicueta to beat.

Knocks it past the Chelsea man, who puts his arm across to block the Wolves man. Free-kick and yellow card for Azpilicueta.

Safe to say he was not about to let Neto get past...

15:27 , Matt Verri

26 mins: Azpilicueta tries to slide a ball through to Werner, not enough pace though and it’s cut out.

Falls invitingly on the bounce for James - he can’t resist and hammers it at goal. Always rising over.

15:25 , Matt Verri

23 mins: Ait-Nouri down in a heap, after James challenges him from behind.

Free-kick to Wolves - unnecessary one too, for all James continues to protest it.

Great delivery into the box... SO CLOSE! Saiss completely free, Lukaku has just let him go. Heads it into the ground and it bounces over the bar.

James Robson at Stamford Bridge

15:21 , Matt Verri

It’s been better from Chelsea over the last 10 minutes or so. Werner forced one save and then Lukaku had an effort blocked from inside the box.

They do seem to be getting space in the channels, with Pulisic proving quite effective in a No10 role.

15:20 , Matt Verri

19 mins: Alonso is getting a lot of space out wide on the left wing for Chelsea.

Kovacic plays it wide to the Spaniard, who wips a decent cross into the box. Lukaku and Pulisic both jump for it, over the pair of them though.

Pulisic has another chance soon after, this time on his left foot from just outside the box. Well wide as he loses his balance.

15:18 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Wolves corner, their first of the match.

Moutinho swings it in, takes a flick off Silva and then hits Jimenez behind him. Can only send the header over the bar.

15:16 , Matt Verri

15 mins: Lukaku’s first real chance of the match.

Moutinho robbed of the ball and Chelsea can break. Fed into Lukaku, goes for goal with his right foot. Blocked and loops up for Sa.

15:15 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Wolves playing their way out from the back - a couple of times they’ve very nearly got themselves in trouble do so.

This time it works though and Neto has space to drive into. Tries to scoop a ball through to Jimenez, way too much on it.

15:13 , Matt Verri

12 mins: Todd Boehly is at Stamford Bridge watching on.

He’ll have just seen James bulldoze his way through a couple of challenges, before he was unable to keep the ball in play. Goal-kick Wolves.

(Action Images via Reuters)

15:11 , Matt Verri

9 mins: Kovacic slides a great ball through to Werner, who is forced wide inside the box.

The German still gets his left-footed strike away, across goal... Sa down well to parry it away.

15:09 , Matt Verri

8 mins: Almost a promising moment for Chelsea.

Rudiger clips a ball over the top, Pulisic has made a good run. Saiss hacks at it, fortunately slicing it straight into the arms of his goalkeeper.

That could have gone anywhere.

James Robson at Stamford Bridge

15:08 , Matt Verri

It’s been almost all Chelsea so far here. Wolves offering very little, but Chelsea not creating much either.

Interesting to see Lukaku and Pulisic start, with both unhappy with their lack of game time of late.

15:06 , Matt Verri

4 mins: Ait-Nouri with a nutmeg on James to break away on the left, quickly hauled down by the Chelsea man.

Don’t think James was particularly thrilled with that piece of skill.

15:03 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Chelsea dominating the ball early on as you’d expect - Loftus-Cheek pings a nice ball out wide to James.

He looks to put the early cross in for Lukaku, headed away though. Alonso then does the same from the opposite flank, too much on it.

KICK-OFF!

We are underway at Stamford Bridge!

14:59 , Matt Verri

Players are out onto the pitch.

Up to the Chelsea team today to keep up the good feeling at the club, after the earlier news regarding the takeover.

Time to find out if they can do that!

CST ‘optimistic’ after Boehly agrees Chelsea deal

13:46 , George Flood

Here is how the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust (CST) reacted to news of Boehly’s agreement this morning:

They tweeted: “The CST welcomes the news that terms have been agreed for the Todd Boehly led consortium to acquire Chelsea FC.

“We will continue to hold close discussions with the prospective owners. We are optimistic about the future of #CFC.

“We hope that the sale is completed swiftly.”

Tuchel: There is no rift with Pulisic

13:41 , George Flood

Thomas Tuchel insists there is no issue between him and Christian Pulisic after the midfielder’s father criticised his lack of playing time at Chelsea.

Pulisic has not started a Premier League game for almost two month and featured as a substitute in last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Everton.

After that game, his dad Mark posted a tweet that was subsequently deleted which read: “The sad thing is he loves the club, teammates, and London... puts his heart and soul into being a pro. Onwards and upwards my boy... big six months ahead.”

Responding to that tweet, Tuchel said: “I am not concerned if a father says that a player does not love me! I am not concerned about that.”

Todd Boehly expected at Stamford Bridge today

13:07 , George Flood

As mentioned, Todd Boehly is expected to be at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

In the early hours of this morning, Chelsea released an official statement to confirm that the consortium fronted by the American billionaire, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss had agreed a deal worth around £4.25billion to purchase the club from Roman Abramovich.

The takeover remains subject to Government approval and is expected to be officially completed by the end of this month.

Chelsea’s statement read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss, to acquire the Club.

(AFP via Getty Images)

“Of the total investment being made, £2.5bn will be applied to purchase the shares in the Club and such proceeds will be deposited into a frozen UK bank account with the intention to donate 100% to charitable causes as confirmed by Roman Abramovich. UK Government approval will be required for the proceeds to be transferred from the frozen UK bank account.

“In addition, the proposed new owners will commit £1.75bn in further investment for the benefit of the Club. This includes investments in Stamford Bridge, the Academy, the Women’s Team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation.

“The sale is expected to complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals. More details will be provided at that time.”

Wolves boss Lage absent after positive Covid test

12:58 , George Flood

Wolves will be without head coach Bruno Lage at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The Portuguese boss tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday and hasn’t travelled with his squad to west London.

Lage will lead the team from home instead, staying in close contact with brother and senior professional development coach Luis Nascimento as well as fellow coaches Tony Roberts, Alex Silva, Carlos Cachada and Jhony Conceicao.

“They’ll be Alex, Jhony, Carlos and Luis will be in contact with the manager – I’m sure he’ll be bellowing down his ear!” goalkeeping coach Roberts said on Friday.

“We’ll try and get the information across but he’s been there this week. We’ve relayed a lot of messages already over the week.

“He’ll be watching it on TV and getting the messages over to us. It’s been done before and won’t be a problem.

“The boys have done really well and know the plan. It’s just whether we can execute it now and get a good performance.”

Chelsea team news: Jorginho and Kante out... Lukaku to start?

12:45 , George Flood

Chelsea will be without key midfielders Jorginho and N’Golo Kante this afternoon.

Kante has still not recovered from the knock he sustained in the 1-1 draw at Manchester United, while Jorginho was substituted at half-time in the loss against Everton last weekend.

Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek should line up as Chelsea’s starting midfield pairing at Stamford Bridge instead.

Elsewhere, Callum Hudson-Odoi (back) remains sidelined, as does long-term absentee Ben Chilwell. Andreas Christensen and Ross Barkley will both hope to play some part after illness, meanwhile.

Up front, Romelu Lukaku could start after not even being brought off the bench as Chelsea chased in vain for a late equaliser on Merseyside last time out.

Predicted Chelsea XI (3-4-3): Mendy; Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger; James, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, Alonso; Ziyech, Lukaku, Mount.

Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to Standard Sport’s latest LIVE Premier League coverage as a hectic season slowly reaches an exciting conclusion.

Todd Boehly is expected to be in attendance today after it was confirmed that his consortium have won the race to buy the club from Roman Abramovich in a £4.25billion deal, subject to Government approval.

Bruno Lage’s Wolves have lost all of their last three matches without scoring - seven out of 10 overall - to damage their European bid and are without a win on this ground since way back in 1979.
