Frank Lampard is reportedly one of the top candidates to become the new head coach at AS Roma if Ivan Juric gets the sack.

Roma currently sit 12th in the Serie A table, after picking up three wins from their first 11 league matches. Current manager Juric has found himself under huge amounts of pressure following his side's abysmal start to the season.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Italy's most widely read newspaper, Chelsea icon Lampard could be among the front-runners to replace the Croatian coach if the 49-year-old is to be fired.

The Friedkin Group, also known as TFG, are the owners of the Italian club. They also look likely to be in charge of Everton by the end of the year if all goes well. Roma's supporters have - in some circles - publicly shown distaste towards TFG, especially after the sacking of Roma hero Daniele De Rossi after just four games this season.

A 5-1 defeat to Fiorentina last month looked to be the nail in the coffin for Juric, but the owners haven't budged just yet. Many fans are assuming they are waiting for the next international break. This leaves Juric with just two games to prove himself, although minds may already be made up. If Lampard was to take over after the break, it could pose a very intriguing match-up upon their domestic return.

The first two games for Roma following the international break would include a Serie A meeting against top of the table Napoli, and a Europa League game against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So that could mark a quick return to England for the ex-midfielder.

Lampard hasn't had an easy venture into management. At his first club Derby County, he lost the Championship play-off final to Aston Villa. The ex-England international then took the leap to Chelsea, where he stayed for two years in a grand return to the west Londoners.

He found moderate success at his time with the Blues - reaching an FA Cup final - and being awarded a Premier League manager of the month award during the 2019/2020 season. That made him just the third manager to win the division's top accolade as both a player and then a manager.

Lampard was eventually sacked in 2021, to be replaced by Thomas Tuchel. He did return to Stamford Bridge as caretaker manager following a year at Everton where he survived relegation. Lampard has now been without a team since the summer of 2023.

Reported interest in Lampard from Roma is re-flagged by Sky Sports Germany and reporter Florian Plettenberg.
