Dynamo Moscow have confirmed Chelsea submitted an offer for midfielder Arsen Zakharyan, though he will not be moving to Stamford Bridge on deadline day.

Zakharyan was in great form last season, registering nine goals and nine assists in all competitions. This helped Dynamo finish third in the Russian Premier League and reach the final of the domestic cup.

Zakharyan’s impressive performances in Russia have seen clubs from Europe’s top-five leagues sit up and take notice. Among the interested teams are Chelsea.

On Friday, the 19-year-old’s agent confirmed he was close to joining the Blues in deal worth around £12.5m (€15m). His representative, Pavel Andreev, said: “This is true. Everything is close.”

Chelsea were confident of adding Zakharyan to their ranks before the transfer window shuts tonight at 11pm.

Their plan is to sign some of the best young talents in the world so they can continue being a big force in European football. This explains the arrivals of Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s side will not be able to add Zakharyan to that list. Dynamo have confirmed they have received an offer from Chelsea for their starlet, though he will be remaining in Russia until January at least.

The Russian club tweeted: ‘Arsen Zakharyan remains at Dynamo.

Arsen Zakharyan to stay in Russia

‘On August 25, Dynamo received an offer from Chelsea regarding the transition. However, due to a number of technical reasons beyond our control, it is impossible to transfer the player to this. It was decided that Arsene would continue to play for Dynamo.’

This means Zakharyan will continue his exciting development at Dynamo. A move to Chelsea could still happen in the winter transfer window, though it will not be going through today.

The playmaker’s agent has also confirmed he will be staying put. During an interview with Sport-Express, Andreev said: “Today, it is impossible to close the transfer of Zakharyan in the summer transfer window.

“This transfer is not frozen until winter, but it is possible. Now we are still working to ensure that Dinamo can get money from Chelsea.”

The Daily Mail add that Zakharyan’s move to Chelsea has been blocked by British sanctions on Russia, amid their invasion of Ukraine. Chelsea cannot send Dynamo any money for Zakharyan under these rules.

Meanwhile, a defender wanted by Chelsea will also be staying at his current club after agreeing a new contract there.
