Frank Lampard has seen it all in over 15 years in the middle of the Premier League park – and now he’s named his five greatest midfield adversaries.

The former Chelsea star, who also played for West Ham and Manchester City in the top flight, has revealed the toughest players he’s come face-to-face with during his glittering career.

Lampard has made room for former team-mate Yaya Toure, who has confirmed his time at the champions will come to an end on Sunday.

Everton and Wolves have been linked with the 34-year-old as the curtain comes down on his eight years at the Etihad.

Unsurprisingly, Steven Gerrard makes the cut – as does Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.

Two tough tacklers made up his finest midfield five with Roy Keane and the Irishman’s arch nemesis Patrick Vieira completing the list.

“I would put Yaya Toure in the top five of the toughest midfield opponents I faced in my career, as at his peak he could change games on his own,” said Lampard to the BBC.

“Steven Gerrard probably edges it as the best I have played against, for his consistency over the years, but Yaya is up there along with Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira and Paul Scholes – which shows how highly I rate him.”
