Chelsea legend tells Pochettino to ‘get rid’ of attacker and replace him with Premier League star
Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf thinks Mauricio Pochettino should be looking to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic from Premier League rivals Fulham.
Mitrovic has previously struggled in the Premier League but he enjoyed a brilliant season for Fulham in 2022/23 as Marco Silva’s side avoided relegation with ease.
The striker missed eight games as a result of a ban but he still managed to score 14 goals in his 24 Premier League outings for the Cottagers.
Arsenal were urged to sign Mitrovic earlier this week, but Chelsea are also going to be in the market for a new striker.
Pochettino has become Chelsea’s new head coach and one of his priorities heading into next season will be to solve their woes in front of goal. They only found the net 38 times in 38 matches during the 22/23 term.
Leboeuf thinks Chelsea could do with “someone like Mitrovic” as he would be capable of “moving the dressing room”.
‘We need a striker, and I think someone like Aleksandar Mitrovic from Fulham would work,’ Leboeuf wrote in his column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea.
‘Mitrovic has the real mentality, he would move the dressing room. I think Mitrovic has a similar personality to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he can be that type of guy, he has the mentality of winner.
‘I like soldiers. Those guys never blink, they never let go, they always face up to it. I love it. He’s done very well for Fulham and he wouldn’t need to move that far away to join Chelsea!’

Lebouef also thinks Chelsea need to ‘get rid’ of Inter Milan loanee Romelu Lukaku as he ‘doesn’t want to be here’.
‘[Lukaku] doesn’t want to come back,’ Leboeuf added. ‘I think he’s already made up his mind, so he shouldn’t come back.
‘If you don’t want to play for a club anymore then don’t play, and the club has to do everything to get rid of him. I know he was a lot of money, but get rid of him because he doesn’t want to be here.
‘Fans will be resentful, so as soon as he plays poor he will be booed and there will be big drama, so what’s the point? Try to get rid of him, shake hands and say goodbye, that’s it.
‘I wish him the best; I love Lukaku, and I really hope that he will be successful and hopefully, he will find his happiness at Inter, and we can get somebody else.’
