Chelsea man to choose between two of Europe’s biggest clubs with Todd Boehly eager to agree departure
Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech will be able to decide between two of the Champions League’s biggest teams when opting to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, according to a report.
Ziyech was hoping to leave during the January transfer window, only for his move to fall through at the last minute. Paris Saint-Germain had been in advanced talks to sign the winger. But the switch could not happen as Chelsea failed to submit the correct documents in time.
PSG were furious and accused Chelsea of sending incorrect paperwork three times. The Ligue 1 side appealed to the French footballing authorities, but this was dismissed.
Ziyech had already travelled to Paris by that point. He was excited about the prospect of playing alongside Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar for PSG. But he was left fuming when he found out about Chelsea’s incompetence and subsequently had to return to west London.
The Moroccan remains intent on leaving the Blues. He does not feel like an important player under Graham Potter. Ziyech is unlikely to play every game for Chelsea due to the vast number of attackers Potter has at his disposal.
And club chairman Todd Boehly is also keen to get Ziyech off Chelsea’s books. Ziyech could be sold alongside four other players this summer to bring some money back in after such lavish spending in the last two transfer windows.

Ziyech’s options have just improved, as CaughtOffside, who cite reports coming out of Spain, suggest Bayern Munich are eager to land the player ahead of PSG.
Bayern have told the 29-year-old and his agent that they are interested in engineering a summer deal.
Bayern hope to achieve Chelsea raid before PSG
At this point, it is understood that Ziyech still wants to join PSG. But Bayern will do all they can over the next few months to convince him on a Germany switch instead.
Chelsea should be able to receive decent money for Ziyech. His contract runs until June 2025, which means he cannot leave them on a free transfer any time soon.
And Chelsea will be able to bump up the price if both PSG and Bayern make bids for him.
Despite this, it remains to be seen whether Potter’s side will be able to make all of the money they spent on Ziyech back. They paid Ajax a total of £36.6m for him in 2020.
While Ziyech has shown glimpses of his obvious talent, he has never been a consistent performer in a Chelsea shirt. PSG and Bayern will use this to their advantage when trying to negotiate Chelsea’s asking price down.
Should Ziyech leave Chelsea, then Blues fans will be left wondering what might have been. He has a brilliant left foot and can easily score or assist goals when he is on top form.
At the World Cup, Ziyech proved he is a classy operator when he plays regularly and is put in the right position. But his Chelsea career has been too stop-start for him to become one of their best players.
Meanwhile, Leeds could swoop in for one of Chelsea’s England internationals this summer, according to a journalist.
