Confirmation will arrive on Saturday evening of the second Premier League club set to take part in next season's Europa League. After finishing the Premier League term in fifth, Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham side are already assured of a place in UEFA's second club competition for the 2024/25 campaign.

Having missed out on Europe altogether 12 months ago, the Lilywhites went agonisingly close to Champions League qualification after finishing two points behind Aston Villa in fourth. Spurs were given a late scare by Chelsea in regards to fifth spot but they managed to hold off their London rivals after getting the better of Sheffield United on the final day of the season.

As a result of finishing sixth, the Blues are currently pencilled in to play in the Europa Conference League next season. However, Chelsea may in fact be elevated to the Europa League depending on the outcome of Saturday's FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley.

Not only do the victors get to win the famous trophy, they will also be rewarded with a place in next season's Europa League. As Premier League champions Man City have already qualified for the Champions League after finishing the season in the top four, their Europa League prize will be passed down the league table if they do triumph in the FA Cup for the second successive season.

In that scenario, Chelsea, who are currently without a manager following Mauricio Pochettino's exit on Tuesday evening, would join Tottenham in the Europa League. The Blues' Europa Conference League berth would then be passed down to the team that finished the 2023/24 Premier League term in seventh, with Eddie Howe's Newcastle United in line to profit and take their place in the competition that was founded in 2021.

Manchester United will be looking to throw a spanner in the works, though, as they attempt to finish their season on a high after such a disappointing year at Old Trafford. The Red Devils failed to qualify for Europe via the league after finishing one place behind Newcastle.

Erik ten Hag's men did finish the season on the same points as the Magpies but it was Newcastle's vastly superior goal difference that saw them pip United to seventh. European football is always a must at Old Trafford and Manchester United will be intent on getting the better of their city rivals at Wembley on Saturday.

If they are to spring a big shock and win the FA Cup, United join Tottenham in next season's Europa League. Chelsea would remain in the Europa Conference League, with Newcastle missing out on Europe altogether.

Man City are the red-hot favourites to beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final for the second year on the trot, and Chelsea and Newcastle will be hoping that is very much the case come 5pm at Wembley. Whoever is to join Tottenham in the Europa League in 2024/25, both teams will discover their opponents in the league phase when the draw is made on Friday, August 30.
