Chelsea are interested in Roberto De Zerbi replacing Mauricio Pochettino as the club's head coach.

The Blues have drawn up a four-man shortlist that includes De Zerbi, Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank and Enzo Maresca, sources have told football.london. Sebastian Hoeness was also considered but interest has cooled over the German, who wants to stay at VfB Stuttgart.

De Zerbi left Brighton & Hove Albion once the 2023/24 season reached its conclusion. The Italian was appointed as the Seagulls boss after Graham Potter joined Chelsea in 2022 and led the club to achieve their highest-ever top-flight finish in his debut season down at the Amex Stadium.

Such success with Brighton has seen De Zerbi linked to several high-profile jobs, including Barcelona and Manchester United. Chelsea, though, hold a keen interest in the former Shakhtar Donetsk manager with the Italian fitting the club's mould and vision for the future, football.london understands.

The impact De Zerbi has had on the Premier League has earned him mass praise from some of the division's biggest names, including Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp. The 44-year-old implemented passing style that allowed Brighton to dominate the ball and tire teams out - but there is more to it than just that.

De Zerbi likes his teams to keep the ball and play around in their own half; sometimes as close as possible to their own goal in an attempt to try and draw the opposition players further up the pitch. While he clearly has tactical nous, a lot of the Italian's work can be seen as psychological as well.

While Chelsea certainly have a keen interest in the former Brighton boss, the club will continue to assess and consider their options before making a definitive decision. McKenna from Ipswich Town remains a strong option for the Blues, but Brighton and Manchester United also have an interest in the highly-regarded 38-year-old coach.

Frank from Brentford is another option for Chelsea. The Dane has done a sensational job with the Bees and has made them a sustainable force in the Premier League. Maresca, who enjoyed a superb debut season with Leicester City in the Championship, has also been looked at by the Chelsea hierarchy.
