As we wait for Liverpool to make its first signing for new head coach Arne Slot, there are plenty of rumors regarding who the next man to join the club will be. It has been established that the Reds are looking to sign a wide forward and a center-back, though of course Richard Hughes could be bluffing and trying to obscure his true intentions.

Whatever the strategy proves to be, Liverpool certainly appears to be looking at wingers. A move was made for Anthony Gordon, though his club Newcastle wanted to include Jarell Quansah or possibly Joe Gomez in the deal and the Reds were not interested in losing a key defender. The bid was likely ‘opportunistic’ to use Hughes’ word from Slot’s first press conference.

Another option is Karim Adeyemi. He was linked with the Reds back in his Red Bull Salzburg days, but has more recently been playing for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final. The 22-year-old has played for his current club on both wings as well as at center-forward, so would be a versatile addition to Slot’s squad. But if Liverpool want to secure the Germany international, it will need to move quickly as Chelsea has reportedly made a move for him.

According to Bild, the west London outfit has approached Adeyemi’s representatives to discuss the possibility of him moving to the Premier League. It is said that Juventus is also interested in signing the youngster, though there is no mention of Liverpool despite the previous links.

It is claimed Dortmund is asking $32.5m (£25.4m/€30m) for Adeyemi. This feels like a low fee for a player of his talent who still has three seasons remaining on his contract and the best years of his career likely in front of him.

Chelsea certainly knows what the winger can deliver. Adeyemi scored the only goal of the game when the Blues visited Signal Iduna Park for a Champions League match in February 2023.

A look at Graham Potter’s line up from that match shows how much turnover has occurred in the squad in so short a time. If Chelsea’s bid is accepted, Adeyemi will have a decision to make. Would he be better served by joining a more stable atmosphere at Liverpool? says: With the ability Adeyemi possesses, the price quoted looks a bargain. A speedy, incisive winger with Champions League and international experience rarely comes so cheap. The brains trust at Liverpool need to give serious consideration to hijacking Chelsea’s move.
