Chelsea will never be world's best team if they sell Eden Hazard to Real Madrid, warns Ray Wilkins

Chelsea will never achieve their aim of becoming the best club in the world if they sell Eden Hazard, warns Ray Wilkins.

The former Blues assistant manager was responding to reports Real Madrid are readying a world-record bid for the Belgian star.

Ramon Calderon, ex-president of the Spanish giants, claimed on Tuesday that a £100million bid would not be a problem for Real.

Wilkins, though, underlined Hazard's "genius" and the struggles of finding a replacement for one of the world's best footballers.

"For Chelsea to lose Hazard, who is one of the best five players on the planet, they would have to try and replacement him and he is irreplaceable at the moment," Wilkins told Sky Sports News.

"He is a wonderfully gifted footballer and why would Chelsea give him up? Mr Abramovich has an enormous amount of money himself.

"Chelsea would be looking to reinforce themselves in the close-season, but Hazard is genius of a footballer. We all love watching him, especially this year and two years ago. Last season was a non-entity, but certainly this year he has been absolutely outstanding.

"I couldn't give a monkey's what they offer, to be perfectly honest. Chelsea wish to be the best club on the planet, and they are moving in the right direction.

"What they have done over the last 10, 12 years is nothing short of phenomenal since Abramovich took over. They are heading to be the best, so why sell the best? They will never get there if they sell Hazard."
