Maurizio Sarri's side were much improved from the 6-0 Premier League humbling at Man City last time out, with Chelsea compact and dangerous on the break at Wembley as they took the game to extra time.
Unfortunately for Sarri, his tactical success was overshadowed by an extraordinary standoff with goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who appeared to refuse to be substituted with a penalty shootout looming large.
Sarri was left furious on the touchline as Kepa stayed on the field with Willy Caballero waiting, and Man City went on the win the shootout 4-3 to win the EFL Cup.
Both Kepa and Sarri insisted after the match that the standoff was a "big misunderstanding", but the incident dominated post-match discussions - especially with the coach's future at the club in doubt.

"It was misunderstood. In no moment was it my intention to disobey, or anything like that, with the boss.
"I have full respect for the coach and his authority."
What Sarri said about Kepa
"Kepa was right, but wrong in the way he conducted himself.
"I was really angry. I want to talk with him because he needs to understand that we can get in trouble, especially with you (the media)."
