Chelsea promote Reece James and Mason Mount academy mentor to first-team role

Chelsea have promoted academy director Neil Bath, who has mentored both Mason Mount and Reece James throughout their careers.

The 57-year-old will become the director of football development and operations, giving him a seat at the table in first-team decisions.

Bath, is highly respected after bringing through at Cobham a stunning generation that now plays for Chelsea’s senior squad.

It is also an acknowledgment of Bath’s growing influence under co-owner Todd Boehly after being supportive of his efforts during the new ownership’s first transfer window.

Bath will join a raft of new hires on a 'transfer think tank' to help the club make decisions on incoming signings.

On Tuesday, the appointment of Paul Winstanley as Director of Global Talent and Transfers.

Winstanley was previously head of recruitment at Brighton and was identified by both Boehly and fellow co-owner Behdad Eghbali as a multi-talented recruiter, further boosted by his experience working with manager Graham Potter and his staff.
