Chelsea have no need to worry when it comes to the race to sign Christopher Nkunku and it is simply a matter of announcing him, according to a report.
Nkunku has looked all set to become a Chelsea player in recent weeks. The Blues have been ready to take him away from RB Leipzig, although obviously they will have to wait until a transfer window is actually open.
Still, it seems like the Frenchman’s destination will be Stamford Bridge. At least, it did until a couple of recent developments.
On one front, claims began to emerge about Nkunku holding out for Real Madrid as his preferred next takers.
Then, there has been the news that Oliver Mintzlaff has resigned as RB Leipzig’s CEO. The change of personnel in his role may potentially put any existing negotiations at risk.
However, according to Sport Bild, Chelsea should sense no cause for alarm. Indeed, their signing of Nkunku is fully prepared and waiting to be announced.
RB Leipzig will also have a new director of football soon, with Max Eberl taking the reins in December. He already knows there are some commitments in the transfer market that will not be backtracked upon.
Nkunku falls into that category and his move to Chelsea is virtually done. Nkunku has been promised he can leave if a €60million (£52.8million) offer comes in.
Chelsea are not afraid to spend big and therefore will be happy to meet the requirements for the soon to be 25-year-old. Hence, he will get his first taste of Premier League football.
Nkunku will be exciting Chelsea signing
In turn, he will hope to continue the form he has been showing in the Bundesliga over the past couple of seasons. Last term, he contributed 35 goals and 20 assists from 52 appearances in all competitions.
Since the current campaign began, he has provided 16 goals and two assists from 21 appearances.
With Chelsea looking for more quality in attack, Nkunku will be an ideal addition. As someone who can cover in virtually any forward position, his qualities should be a major boost to Graham Potter’s side when the time comes for his arrival.
It has been hard for Chelsea to generate goals from their centre-forwards in recent years. Hence, perhaps the answer could be someone like Nkunku, who isn’t a traditional number nine but can attack from all angles.
