The Chelsea squad is reportedly eagerly awaiting the arrival of Enzo Maresca as their new manager.

Maresca was officially announced as Mauricio Pochettino's replacement on Monday, after weeks of speculation linking him to the Blues. The Italian guided Leicester City to Championship glory last season.

His stint at the Foxes marked his first managerial role in England, although he previously served as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Maresca quickly became Chelsea's prime candidate once the mutual agreement with Mauricio Pochettino was decided.

Despite the significant leap for Maresca to join a side that finished sixth in the top flight, the 44-year-old already has the support of his new team. The Blues players are believed to have voiced their enthusiasm about his appointment privately.

This anticipation has been mounting since the Italian was first tipped for the job. It's understood that many players had heard of his coaching and communication prowess from his former charges, reports the Mirror.

With a strong end to the season, there's a growing sense of optimism within the dressing room about what they can accomplish next year under Maresca's leadership. The man himself is also eager to meet his new squad and is keen to make an immediate impact.

The ex-Leicester boss is reportedly impressed with the current Blues line-up. He has already requested a comprehensive performance review of every player, from the youth squad to the first team.

Chelsea's co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who were instrumental in the hunt for a new manager, are confident that Maresca is the perfect fit for the Blues. In a joint statement, they expressed: "We are delighted to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach capable of delivering impressive results with an exciting and identifiable style.

"Enzo has deeply impressed us in our discussions leading up to his appointment. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We thoroughly look forward to working with him."

Maresca is equally eager to take on the role but acknowledges he'll have to wait until after Euro 2024 to fully engage with most of his squad. The new Chelsea boss shared: "To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. It is why I am so excited by this opportunity.

"I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club's tradition of success and makes our fans proud."
