Struggling Chelsea man Hakim Ziyech has admitted he does not know “what will happen” regarding his future beyond the winter, amid transfer interest.
Ziyech joined the Blues as a very exciting prospect. Two seasons prior to his move to Stamford Bridge, the Moroccan registered a ridiculous 33 goal involvements in 29 Eredivisie games for Ajax.
The following season, despite a couple of spells on the sidelines through injury, Ziyech contributed to 19 goals in 21 games.
That led to Chelsea splashing around £35million on him. While he has shown promise during his time in England, he has never gotten close to the heights he soared to in the Netherlands.
Indeed, his best tally of goals and assists was 14 in 44 games, last season. His lack of production has not been helped by the fact he has played a fringe role for much of his time at Chelsea.
Indeed, in the Premier League last season, Ziyech started just 14 games.
This season, his struggles for minutes have continued. The winger has played just eight games in all competitions, with only two of those being from the start.
As such, it looks as if it might be time to call it quits and try to move on to another club.
‘Difficult’ for Ziyech to know where he’ll be
Ziyech has been the subject of interest from a few clubs of late. While he has not performed all too consistently at Chelsea, there is clearly quality in there.
As such, a change of scenery, to a club that has more faith in him, might be able to bring that quality back out.
Tottenham and AC Milan have been two sides linked with a move for him most of late.
Ziyech himself has added to rumours that he might leave Chelsea as early as January, admitting he does not know where he will end up.
“It’s hard to say, difficult to say. We don’t know what will happen in the winter. It’s football, so it’s difficult to say,” he told NOS.
That he himself does not know where he will be beyond January does not bode well. If Chelsea had faith in him, it is likely he would be aware of that.
Indeed, with a couple of sides sniffing around, he might well be on his way out of Stamford Bridge over the winter.
With Tottenham’s attacking options as potent as they are, Ziyech may not get much playing time. However, with AC Milan seeming very keen to take him on board, that could be a move with legs.
A move away from England, where he has clearly struggled, might be what he needs to revive his career.
