Chelsea stunned at home by Burnley as Cahill and Fabregas sent off

Burnley celebrate going 1-0 up at Chelsea

Sam Vokes scored twice as Burnley beat nine-man Chelsea 3-2 in an incredible match at Stamford Bridge.

The Wales striker put the Clarets ahead on 24 minutes with a right-footed shot and added a third just before half time, heading home Steven Defour’s cross.

Sandwiched between those goals was a left-footed finish for Stephen Ward as the champions disintegrated in front of their own fans.

This all followed Gary Cahill’s red card, the Chelsea skipper sent off for a lunge at Defour.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte had named a very young and inexperienced bench which included record signings Alvaro Morata.

And with 21 minutes remaining the Spain striker pulled a goal back for the Blues, heading home Willian’s cross from close range.

Morata thought he had netted a second goal four minutes later but he was adjudged offside as Chelsea poured forward in a bid to save the match.

But their hopes were dented nine minutes from time when Cesc Fabregas was shown a second yellow card for a challenge on Jack Cork. Both he and Cahill will now miss Tuesday’s match against Tottenham at Wembley.

With three minutes remaining David Luiz made it 3-2 to set up a grandstand finish.
