Three BT Sport pundits have been discussing the sensational form of Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen and where he might go next, with Chelsea backed to beat Manchester United in the race for his signature.

Osimhen has already reached 20 goals this season, having managed that figure in just 24 appearances. He bagged 18 goals in the whole of last season but has already blown past that number, helping Napoli achieve a significant gap at the top of the Serie A table and make themselves contenders for Champions League glory.

Osimhen was on the scoresheet during Tuesday’s 2-0 away victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League last 16. Napoli had already hit the post and had a penalty saved before Osimhen put them in front with 40 minutes on the clock. Hirving Lozano raced down the right flank before picking out his striker in the box, and Osimhen finished from close range.

Osimhen had a goal disallowed for offside just a minute later, while Frankfurt attacker Randal Kolo Muani was then sent off for a bad challenge.

Napoli made it 2-0 in the 65th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia beautifully set up his captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Frankfurt had no reply and Napoli are now in a great position to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Osimhen is thought to be a target for both Chelsea and Man Utd, as both clubs will need a new striker in the summer.

BT Sport pundits Glen Hoddle, Eniola Aluko and Owen Hargreaves have sung the praises of the Nigerian, with Aluko predicting Chelsea to capture him before Man Utd.

Prior to Napoli’s win, Hargreaves was asked where Osimhen fits in among the top strikers in the world. He replied: “I think he’s the next in line. If you’re his agent, [his] numbers are important. He’s probably the next £100million player who will come over to the Premier League. Man Utd, Chelsea, a lot of teams would be desperate to have this guy.

“He has everything, he’s got size, he’s got speed, he’s got strength. His numbers are top. Any manager would be desperate to have him as he’s got everything.”

Hoddle added: “I think he will come to the Premier League as soon as he can get here. A lot of teams in the Premier League want to press. You don’t have to change your tactics [because] this guy presses, he’s got energy.”

Aluko then gave her opinion. “They’ve spent all this money Chelsea, but that’s the type of striker I think would suit them,” she said.

When asked to compare Osimhen with Erling Haaland and Marcus Rashford, Hargreaves added: “The numbers are elite numbers. Haaland has them, Robert Lewandowski has them. And that’s why everybody is going to be looking. At 24, he’s the perfect age.”

One slight concern Hoddle has is that Serie A isn’t the strongest league, so it might not be the best time to compare Osimhen with Haaland or Lewandowski. “The only thing. How many goals would Haaland score in Serie A? It isn’t the strongest league at the moment,” Hoddle declared.

“I think he [Osimhen] is a brilliant player. He’s probably going to come to the Premier League and do it here. We’ve just got to watch that we’re not getting carried away here. He’s not getting numbers near Haaland, he’s not a Lewandowski yet.

“He could become that, and he looks on track.”

The trio of pundits analysed Osimhen again after full time. “He is a top, top player. Let’s just hope he can continue and be injury-free and end up in the Premier League. It would be lovely,” Hoddle said.

And when asked which English team would win the race for his services, Aluko said simply: “Chelsea.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham will be delighted after one of their managerial targets rejected the chance to become Chelsea boss.
