Ian Wright believes Chelsea “have got a real prospect” in January signing Noni Madueke, but he needs to work on one attribute to reach the next level.

Madueke is one of 16 players that have walked through the door at Stamford Bridge in the last two transfer windows. Indeed, he was part of an outlay of more than £500million.

In January alone, eight players joined the club – Madueke making a move from PSV Eindhoven reported to be in the region of £30million.

He’s appeared sparingly thus far, making eight appearances, split evenly from the starting XI and the bench.

Madueke netted his first Chelsea goal in the 3-1 loss against Arsenal two games ago. That afforded him another start in the following game, against Bournemouth.

Former Premier League forward Wright has praised him for his positive role in that fixture.

“I think today he did [make the difference],” he said on Match of the Day.

“It’s his fourth league start, Frank started him at Arsenal and said the reason why he put him in was because how hard he’s been working in training to try to get that consistency to try to get himself in the team, and he’s done it.

“He was very, very good today, gave [Matias] Vina a lot of problems.”

While Wright feels Chelsea could have a future star on their hands, he admitted there’s one part of Madueke’s game that will need to be improved for him to reach the next level.

“This was the problem with him – the final ball. He holds it and holds it, in the end this is what he’s going to have to learn quickly to make better decisions in that instance,” he added.

“He’s got this kind of ability [to go past people], you’re thinking as time goes by he will feed it [in the box].

“He’ll start to get that in his game, and once he starts getting that in his game then you can see Chelsea have got a real prospect on their hands because he looked very good today.”

Indeed, it’s clear Madueke has the talent, and if he can become a good provider, adding that element to his game will make him much more of a threat, and add to Chelsea’s attacking prowess as a whole, which can only be good for them in future.
