Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly battling for the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk's close friend Georgiy Sudakov from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mudryk arrived at Stamford Bridge from Shakhtar for a whopping £88.5 million in the January transfer window in 2023. The pair played together for three years at Shakhtar and also share the dressing room at international level.

Regarded as one of the brightest talents in Ukraine, Sudakov is expected to complete a big money move. According to the Express, Chelsea and Spurs have held 'frequent talks' with Shakhtar's hierarchy in the lead-up to the summer transfer window.

However, the Ukrainian side are reluctant to do business before the European Championships given that a sequence of games on a major international stage will increase his price tag. Ukraine will play Romania, Slovakia and Belgium in Group E.

Sudakov will also have further chances to impress when they take on Germany, Poland and Moldova in a trio of friendlies. The 21-year-old was subject of a £34million approach from Napoli in January but a £43m counter offer was enough to put the Italian side off.

His price tag is thought to have increased since then, with reports claiming that he is rated around £65m. Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are also said to have been monitoring his development this season.

Chelsea however, tried to get ahead of competition by inviting Shakhtar chief Sergei Palkin to Stamford Bridge to watch their league match with Everton.

Speaking openly on Sudakov's club future, Shakhtar chief Sergei Palkin said: "He has a big chance to move to some big clubs this summer. We have had some contacts with big clubs and some are not negotiating with us directly but are getting a feel for the summer environment.

"He will definitely move to a top European club this summer. When I was at Chelsea against Everton on Monday, many people asked me about Sudakov. The most interest will come from English clubs. For me, he will become one of the best midfielders in Europe and the world."
