Kepa Arrizabalaga has been handed a shock recall to the Chelsea team against Newcastle.

The goalkeeper makes his first start in the Premier League since October and Edouard Mendy has been dropped to the bench.

Arrizabalaga has been out of the Chelsea team since a string of high-profile errors earlier this season and the Spaniard, who cost £71.6m three years ago, was been linked with a January loan move away from Stamford Bridge.

But he kept a clean sheet in last Thursday’s 1-0 FA Cup win at Barnsley and new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has kept faith with him.

Timo Werner returns to the team after missing the Barnsley game with a dead leg but Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva miss out.

Callum Hudson-Odoi starts. N’Golo Kane is on the bench along with Hakim Ziyech.

Chelsea starting lineup: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger, Hudson-Odoi, Jorginho, Mount, Kovacic, Alonso, Abraham, Werner.

Subs: Mendy, Zouma, James, Chilwell, Emerson, Kante, Pulisic, Ziyech, Giroud.

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Kick-off: 8pm (UK time)
