Frank Lampard is looking forward to the prospect of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech linking up after the summer signings made their Chelsea debuts on Saturday.

Werner and Ziyech both started for the Blues in the 1-1 draw against Brighton in front of over 2,500 fans at the Amex Stadium, with Werner taking just four minutes to get on the scoresheet.

Werner and Ziyech are just two of Lampard's new additions this summer, with Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr also moving to Stamford Bridge - while a deal for Kai Havertz looks close to being completed.

There will be big expectations of both Lampard and Chelsea following a huge summer outlay, but the Blues boss is excited by the options available as he looks to build on the club's top-four finish last season.

"I thought Timo was really sharp and bright," Lampard told the club's website. "He got his goal really early in the game, he showed some of the qualities that I know very well he has so I am very excited about having him in the squad.

"I thought his work rate and everything about him was a great little start for him and Hakim Ziyech the same, some of his contributions and passing and quality levels were great."

Ziyech departed with an injury early in the second half, to which Lampard explained: "He has a bit of a knock on his knee, a little bit of a small twist which we will have to assess, hopefully it is not too bad, but in the performances they were both really good."

Regarding Chelsea's busy summer in the market, Lampard said: "We have an idea to try to add to improve, as you should do at a club of our level, and we know that has not been absolutely possible for us, and we knew the ban and all this talk, and it was important for me to try to improve the squad and with the players that we are bringing in.

"It feels that way, but we need to be careful of getting too far ahead of ourselves because we need to give time to players to come in and adapt, to the way I want us to play and to their team-mates, but I think the moves we are making our positive, so I am excited and then it is up to us to get our heads down and work very hard."
