Cheltenham Festival: Punters bounce back with Yorkhill win

Ruby Walsh finally got off the mark in the opening race on day three of Cheltenham, with Yorkhill beating off Top Notch as the pair ran up the famous hill at Cheltenham. The win was greeted by a rapturous applause when the Mullins horse won the race, and for good reason.

29.3% of bets placed in the last twenty-four hours on Oddschecker were on the favourite, compared to 23.4% on Top Notch. As for stakes, just over 27% of money placed on the race was on the winner. Ante-post bettors are also checking their balances as 30.6% of all ante-post punts in the JLT Novice Chase were on Yorkhill, compared to 10.7% on Top Notch.

After yesterday’s accas busters, a lot of punters have re-invested in new Cheltenham accumulators. 28.7% of the accas placed today contained Yorkhill, and 19% of all ante-post multis also involved the Mullins winner. Unlike yesterday’s losers, Top Notch wouldn’t have killed many ante-post bets as only 0.7% of the accas placed before the Festival included Top Notch.
