Former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns has been taken off life support and recovering well. A hospital spokesperson informed the Cairns is serious but stable. His lawyer also informed on social media that the former Kiwi all-rounder is off the life support and able to communicate with his family.

Chris Carins suffered a heart issue about two weeks ago. The 51-year-old was reported to face an aortic dissection, which means a tear in the inner layer of the body’s main artery. He was earlier admitted to a hospital in Australia’s Canberra city.

Later, he was rushed to Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital. He underwent cardiovascular surgery earlier. He has been placed in an intensive care in a specialist cardiac unit.

Pleased To Say That Chris Cairns Is Off Life Support, Says His Lawyer Aaron Lloyd

Chris Cairns’ lawyer informed on social media about the former cricketer’s improving health.

“I’m pleased to say that Chris is off life support and has been able to communicate with his family. They are thankful for all of the support and well wishes from everyone, and ask for continued privacy,” Cairns lawyer Aaron Lloyd wrote on social media.

Earlier, Chris Cairns’ wife Melaine Cairns had informed about his medical situation while also asking for privacy on the matter.

“As has now been widely reported in the media, Chris suffered a major medical event in Canberra late last week. He initially underwent surgery in Canberra, but the seriousness of his condition is such that he has now been transferred to St Vincent’s hospital in Sydney, where he has undergone further cardiovascular surgery,” Melaine had informed in an official statement.

“For now, no further statements will be made regarding Chris’ situation, and the Cairns family asks that people continue to respect their privacy as they deal with this difficult, upsetting and concerning situation,” she further said.

Chris Cairns represented the New Zealand national team from 1989 to 2006. He was one of the best all-rounders of his time. In 62 Test matches, he scored 3320 runs at an average of 33.53 and scalped 2018 wickets. In 2015 ODIs, the right-handed batsman mustered 4,950 runs at an average of 29.46 while also accounting for 201 ODI wickets. His career was affected by corruption allegations, which he faced post his retirement while undertaking coaching roles.
