Chris Davies hailed Icelandic ace Willum Willumsson after he continued his fine form with another goal in Birmingham City’s draw with Mansfield.

Willumsson put Blues ahead at Field Mill by finishing off a neatly crafted goal before Lee Gregory’s second half free-kick ensured the points were shared. The goal takes Willumsson’s tally to four goals in 12 League One games, whilst the midfielder also has three assists to his name. Only Alfie May (8) has more goal contributions for Blues this season than Willumsson.

Davies also highlighted one of the statistics that we aren’t privy to. The 6ft 4in ex-Go Ahead Eagles man gets through an enormous workload off the ball too.

“He covers a lot of land there, the mileage he covers every game is high,” said Davies. “He runs a lot and works hard for the team, and gets goals and assists. He’s adapted to English football really well.”

Willumsson spoke to Blues TV after the game and made a comment that should send shivers around League One. “Every game we are going to get stronger,” Willumsson said of league leaders Blues. “We have a lot of new players, it will take some time to gel together and get the chemistry.”

Blues are three points clear at the top of League One after nine wins from their opening 12 matches. Davies’ side are in cup action next week before they take on Northampton Town at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on Saturday, November 9.
