Chris Mepham considered by Celtic as Bournemouth defender on Brendan Rodgers transfer shortlist

Celtic are interested in Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham as they eye up summer reinforcements.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is on the lookout for a centre-half who can play on the left-side of the pairing, as we at Football Scotland exclusively told you last week. The Hoops have Liam Scales in that spot currently but the manager is looking for a strong challenger for the position and has identified Mepham as a credible option. The 26-year-old has been out of the Cherries' starting XI in recent times through injury while the likes of Marco Senesi and Illia Zabarnyi have been on form under Andoni Iraola.

The player's contract still has one year to run which could mean the Premier League outfit may consider cashing in. And while Football Scotland understands the Welsh cap is indeed on a list of targets, it's the Daily Mail who report they could be forced to stump up around £8million for his services.

It comes as we exclusively revealed earlier this evening how goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen is high on Celtic's list of summer transfer targets with Sparta Prague already in talks with the Scottish champions about a possible sale.

The Dane just recently penned a long-term contract with the Czech giants but Celts remain keen on him as their replacement for Joe Hart.
