Teigen calls this time, "the darkest of days."

In a heartbreaking October 1st Instagram post, Chrissy Teigen confirmed that she and husband John Legend lost their unborn son after experiencing major complications with the pregnancy.

"We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before," Teigen wrote in the caption of her post. "We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough..."

Teigen had been on bed rest since early September, and expressed on Twitter that this third pregnancy was a lot more difficult than her previous two (with daughter Luna and son Miles). On September 29th, Teigen updated Instagram followers that she was receiving a second blood transfusion, adding, "Baby and I are completely fine."

However, the situation that Teigen previously called "more dramatic than it is," turned out to be very serious—she was experiencing bleeding from her placenta.

In the October 1st, post, Teigen included an image of herself receiving an epidural and another of herself and John cradling their son in their arms, thus showing that she was forced to deliver early.

"We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital," Teigen wrote in her post. "But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us."

"Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever..." Teigen wrote.

She continued, "To our Jack - I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you..."

She went on to thank those who've supported her family during this time. "Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers," Teigen wrote. "We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you...We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience. But everyday can’t be full of sunshine."

"On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it."

We're sending so much love to Teigen, Legend, and their family during this time. If you or someone you know if going through a similar loss, you can contact a resource like Through the Heart or or SAMHSA's National Helpline for support.
