Christian Eriksen gives progress on Man Utd return hopes after becoming ‘bored’ with watching brief
Christian Eriksen has revealed that he is hoping to feature for Manchester United before the end of the season after watching from the stands as his team-mates lifted the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
The Denmark international playmaker suffered an ankle injury in United’s FA Cup victory against Reading back in January and was forced to have surgery to rectify the problem.
The initial prognosis suggested that the 31-year-old would be on the sidelines for up to four months, which would take him through to mid-May. And Eriksen admits he is desperate to get back on the pitch.
The midfielder, who joined on a free transfer last summer, was a frustrated onlooker as United ended their six-year trophy wait by beating Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley over the weekend.
The Red Devils are also well in the mix for the Premier League title, through to Europa League last-16 and have an FA Cup fifth-round tie with West Ham on Wednesday night.
And Eriksen says he’s hopeful that he can feature again this season, particularly if Eri ten Hag’s men manage to get to another final.
“I’m feeling well,” Eriksen told MUTV at Wembley.
“I mean it’s always boring to be in the boot and being on crutches but I’ve left the crutches now and am only on the boot.
“Next week, it should be gone and I’ll be finally learning to walk! No, it feels good.”
Eriksen targets more United finals
Asked if he still hopes to be available if United get to another showpiece final, Eriksen added: “Yeah, definitely.
“Before it was four but it’s now three and we’ve taken one. But there are so many games in between, before the next final. There will be a longer build-up if we get there.
“For me, there’s a lot of hard work coming back, getting my place back in the team, as I mean the team is performing and the guys are winning. So it’s a pleasure to watch.”
