Brentford remain keen to sign Christian Eriksen and will begin dialogue with his representatives despite interest from other Premier League clubs.

The 30-year-old penned a six-month loan deal with the Bees in January, completing an amazing journey back to the sport. The popular midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark in their Euro 2020 group opener against Finland last summer. He was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator device and it was thought that his playing career was over.

The former Tottenham man had to leave Inter as Italian rules prevented him from playing while fitted with the device. However, there was nothing to stop him joining an English club.

And the rumour mill began to turn during the winter window until he finally inked a deal in west London. Erikson joined compatriot Thomas Frank at the Brentford Community Stadium, making 10 starts among 11 top-flight outings.

He bagged one goal and registered four assists as the Bees ended up in 13th spot in the Premier League.

Despite concerns over his health, the Dane looked as good as ever and showed his class on many occasions. And it seems as though a few clubs are interested in signing him next month when his temporary deal ends.

Manchester United, Newcastle United and former club Spurs have all been mentioned in connection with the ex-Ajax ace. However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that his present employers have already made a move.

He tweeted: “Christian Eriksen has been approached by three Premier League clubs but Brentford will open talks with his agent to make a proposal.

Options open for in-demand Eriksen

It has been an emotional return to the game for Eriksen. It was touch-and-go last summer as to whether he would recover from the incident.

But he is also back in the international fold, scoring twice for Denmark during March’s friendlies. He found the net against Netherlands and Serbia, bringing his total of goals for the Red and Whites to 38.

And it is clear that he has ambitions to be part of Kasper Hjulmand’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year. Playing for a top club would help his cause but Brentford director Phil Giles clearly wants him to remain.

“It’s no secret that we’d love Christian to stay. We will continue to discuss that possibility with him,” he said, according to Romano.

Brentford and Erikson seemed a match made in heaven. But it would be a surprise to see him at the club next term with the quality of teams linked.
