Christopher Eubanks to surge up ATP Rankings as stars like Jamie Foxx line up to congratulate him
Christopher Eubanks’ magical run at the Miami Open on Tuesday as he reached his maiden ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final and he will be rewarded with a new career-high in the ATP Rankings.
A fortnight ago Eubanks fell in the first round of qualifiers at the Indian Wells Open, but now he finds himself on a six-match winning streak in Florida and set for a last-eight match against 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.
After beating Gregoire Barrere in the third round, the 26-year-old felt like he finally made it as it also marked his top 100 breakthrough, but there were bigger and better things to come on Tuesday as he defeated veteran Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5).
“Today feels a little bit more like, ‘Hey, I’m here. Trust it,'” Eubanks told ATP Tour. “I’m playing well and let’s just see how long we can keep this thing going.”
Eubanks had a 4-6 win-loss record on the ATP Tour last year, but he is already 6-5 so far this campaign with his three main draw wins in Miami giving his stats a big boost.
His latest win will also see him rise to a career-high as he currently projected to climb to No 85, quite a jump from the 102 he reached earlier in 2023.
And his success has resulted in celebrities like actor and singer Jamie Foxx as well as NFL player Chad Johnson giving him shout-outs on social media.
“Blood sweat and tears and true hard work has paid off for my good friend @chris_eubanks96 tennis is your passion, my friend continue to rise and congratulations on breaking into the top 100 players in the world!
,” Foxx wrote after his win over Barrere.
Johnson wrote: “Dear followers please congratulate my guy @chris_eubanks96 on yet another win tonight at the Miami Open, also inform him on the importance of post game McDonald’s to help recovery
”
Eubanks is naturally overwhelmed by the support he has received.
“It’s amazing man. It’s really, really cool. I’ve known Foxx for two, three years now and he’s become a really, really close friend, someone I can call if I just want to kind of talk through life a little bit,” he said.
“Chad and I actually connected for the first time two or three weeks ago. He posted a video playing tennis and I think we had DMd in the past and when he posted the video I commented saying, ‘Hey man that looks pretty good.’ He commented back saying, ‘I would love to get on the court with you,’ so I immediately shot him a DM I said, ‘Hey I’m going to be down in Miami for the Miami Open if you want to come out I can see about getting you a credential.’
“We were able to do that and he’s such an avid sports fan. He loves following tennis. He was super excited to be able to meet Carlitos [Alcaraz] today, he got to meet Tommy [Paul] the other day.
“So he’s an all-around sports junkie. It was really cool for him to be able to come out. He stuck through one or two rain delays… It’s been really cool to see the outpouring of support. DJ D-Nice is another person who reached out and I got to meet. It’s been really, really cool.”
