Jan. 20—MOORE — It looked for a moment like Ada was about to snag a victory out of the hands of tradition-rich Millwood in the closing seconds of their first-round matchup Thursday at the John Nobles Invitational in Moore.
Devon MacCollister hit two technical foul free throws with 39 seconds left that tied the game and then drove to the basket after taking the ensuing inbounds play and banked in a tough leaner that appeared to give the Cougars their first lead of the entire contest.
But MacCollister was whistled for an offensive foul, the basket was waved off and Millwood's Xon Williams hit two free throws with 3.5 ticks left to help the Falcons escaped with a heart-pounding 55-53 victory.
Coach Kyle Caufield's club, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, fell to 11-3 on the year, while Class 3A No. 2 Millwood improved to 11-4.
