Philippe Clement reckons Vaclav Cerny has put his Rangers detractors in their place as the winger continued his red-hot scoring streak against St Mirren.

Winger Cerny has been in for some criticism after flattering to deceive since his loan move from Wolfsburg. Things appeared to reach breaking point during the win over Hibs last month, after he was seen remonstrating with his own fans for getting on his back. He's responded since then though with braces against St Johnstone and Steaua Bucharest before his match-winning strike against St Mirren today.

He's turned things around after a difficult start and Clement was delighted to see both him and Cyriel Dessers take on starring roles against Saints. He was asked on BBC Sportsound after the 2-1 win if Cerny is starting to show why he brought him to Rangers, and replied: "For sure. He got a lot of stick three weeks ago from a lot of people, and that was his reaction (scoring five goals in four games). Those kinds of people, we need in the building. In that way I'm also happy with Cyriel with the energy he came in with, and how he gave the assist for the second important goal."

It's now onto Aberdeen on Wednesday for Rangers and Clement knows they'll need to improve if they are to become the first team this season to shoot down the flying Dons and eat into the gap at the top. "We need to be better that today," he said. "We need to be at the same level as Thursday. But it's a totally different game. It's now about recovering and being ready for Wednesday."
