Cobie Barnes fires in 32 points in SMWC victory

Jan. 19—Senior Cobie Barnes tied his season high with 32 points and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men's basketball team pulled away for a 89-60 River States Conference victory Thursday night inside Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center.

A former Indiana State player, Barnes also had a team-high six assists, two blocks and one of the Pomeroys' 12 steals.

The Pomeroys (12-4, 7-0 RSC) shot 50 percent in the second half to outscore the Golden Bears (12-3, 5-2 RSC) by a 43-24 margin in the final 20 minutes.

SMWC outrebounded WVU Tech 49-28 as Shon Tupuola hauled in 17 boards to go with three blocked shots.

Greg Jenkins added 18 points, five assists, two steals and a blocked shot for SMWC and DaMeriz Merriweather came off the bench for 11 points.

Next up for The Woods is a 3 p.m. home matchup against Alice Lloyd College (Ky.) on Saturday.
